Special Projects .. Ronald McDonald House Charities

Ronald McDonald House Charities

GFWCNY President 2006-2008 Kathy Canzano chose RMHC for the following reasons. “Since we are a women’s organization, I chose a project centering on women and children. RMHC was selected for its connection with medical concerns of families. I want my state to help families who may be dealing with medical issues. I really like the hands on aspect of the volunteer opportunities. The many needs of RMHC are a perfect fit for the clubwomen of New York. It is my hope that their support and enthusiasm is long lasting.”

Medical Binders could be assembled and provided for use by families to have records of their child’s medical information at hand. Included in this Binder is a page for insertion of Doctor’s Business Cards – providing names and phone numbers, Medical History, List of Current Medications, Current Treatment andTherapy, Lab Tests Results, Daily Observations, and a page to write Questions to Ask the Doctor. This can be kept at the bedside for the parent’s use as a current record. A sample Medical Binder was provided to every club in the state. As clubs got involved in this, more that 800 Binders were completed and delivered to Ronald McDonald Houses. Many members made a Binder to organize their own personal medical information.

Collection of metal pull tabs from beverage containers are given to RMH and sold for the aluminum. Money raised is used for operating expenses. Thousands were collected and given to RMH in Syracuse and Buffalo.

Ronald McDonald Big Red Shoe Pins is a visual way to show support for RMHC. This was established as a fundraising effort and clubs were instantly excited about getting involved. If a club sold pins- the club was entered in a drawing. Sell more pins – entered more times. Over 1000 Pins were sold across the state to club members, friends and colleagues – some sold “on the floor” of the Stock Exchange on Wall Street.
